The things we hear in this country can make your head spin. Just when you think you’ve heard it all, another story pops up to show you that the heart of man can be truly something else. This latest gist coming from Kaduna is a serious warning for every parent.

Two men, identified as 23-year-old Danladi Usman and 26-year-old Nasir Ahmed, have found themselves in hot soup. On Tuesday, they were brought before a Kaduna Magistrates’ Court and have been ordered to be kept in a correctional facility until their case is heard properly.

So, Wetin Happen Exactly?

According to the police prosecutor, Inspector Chidi Leo, this whole wahala started on May 10. The two men allegedly saw a 3-year-old and a 2-year-old playing outside their house in the Hayin Dan-Mani area of Rigasa, Kaduna.

And what did they do? They used the oldest, most wicked trick in the kidnapper’s playbook. They allegedly tempted the innocent children with biscuits and sweets, luring them away from the safety of their home. Can you just imagine the panic of the parents when they realised their children were gone?

It didn’t end there. These men then allegedly contacted the distraught parents and demanded a whopping sum of N2 million as ransom for the safe return of their kids.

After the parents paid the money, the children were released. But as the saying goes, “every day for the thief, one day for the owner.” The police eventually tracked down and arrested Usman and Ahmed in connection with the crime.

The Court Matter

When they appeared in court, they were facing heavy charges of criminal conspiracy and kidnapping, which are very serious offences under the Kaduna State Penal Code Law.

The magistrate, Mr. Ibrahim Emmanuel, did not take their plea. He ordered that they should be remanded in prison custody. Their case file has now been sent to the State Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) for proper legal advice on how to proceed.

The case has been adjourned until June 25 for the next hearing.

This story is a painful reminder for all parents, aunties, uncles, and guardians. Please, let’s be extra vigilant. Keep a close eye on your children and teach them never to accept gifts from or follow strangers, no matter how tempting. The streets are not smiling.
