The stories we are hearing from Delta State right now will just make you weak. It seems like every day, we wake up to news that is more heartbreaking than the last. This latest one from Oghara Kingdom in Ethiope West Local Government Area is a bitter pill to swallow.
According to reports reaching us, some evil people kidnapped a man and his wife. As is sadly the norm these days, they demanded a ransom from the family to secure their release.
Now, here is the part that will make you angry and sad at the same time. The family, desperate to see their loved ones again, did everything they could. You know how it is – they probably sold what they had, begged friends and relatives, and gathered the money to pay these criminals. They paid the ransom, hoping and praying for the safe return of the couple.
But in an act of pure wickedness, after collecting the money, the kidnappers still killed the husband.
Just imagine the pain of the wife and the entire family. You do everything the kidnappers ask, you hold on to that small hope, only for them to shatter it in the most brutal way possible. What kind of person does that? No conscience, no fear of God.
This incident, alongside reports of a farmer also being killed and his family abducted in the same state, shows that the security situation is getting out of hand. The promise of “pay and we’ll release them” is no longer a guarantee. It’s now a deadly gamble.
Our hearts and prayers go out to the wife who has to bear this unimaginable loss and the family left to mourn. This is a tragedy too many.
