In what can only be described as one of the most heartbreaking sequences of events, Nigerian writer Daud Gambo has passed away in a fatal road crash — just hours after he announced the death of his beloved mother to the world.
A Day That Took Everything
On Sunday, September 20, 2026, Gambo was travelling to Kano when tragedy struck. The road crash claimed his life, leaving behind a community still reeling from the news of his mother’s passing that he had shared just hours earlier.
For many Nigerians, the pain of losing a mother is something that cuts deep to the bone — we understand the weight of that grief intimately. But to imagine a son, barely processing the loss of the woman who brought him into this world, also losing his own life on the very same day? That is a sorrow words struggle to carry.
