My people, the street is not smiling o! News reaching us from India confirms that one of our own, a Nigerian man, and his partner-in-crime from Zimbabwe have been arrested by the police.
According to the reports, the two men allegedly decided to play a fast one on a 63-year-old retired government officer, and it seems their game has finally cut. They are accused of duping the pensioner of a huge sum of money.
Chai! And the amount is not small beans. The police say the duo allegedly scammed the retired officer of a whopping 13.10 lakh Indian Rupees. For those of us back home, that’s over 23 Million Naira! Imagine, somebody’s entire life savings and pension just gone like that.
But as the saying goes, every day for the thief, one day for the owner. After the retired officer reported the matter, the Indian police, under the direction of their Commissioner, swung into action. They launched an investigation which eventually led them to the doorstep of the Nigerian man and his Zimbabwean friend.
Right now, they are in police custody as the investigation continues. This kind of news is just another reason why the rest of us trying to make a clean living abroad have to struggle with a bad image. We just have to do better.
