The Ogun State Police Command has made a significant breakthrough in a murder case, arresting two security guards in connection with the killing of a traveler identified as Promise in the Ibafo area of the state.
The state’s Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Oluseyi Babaseyi, confirmed the arrests in a statement released to journalists, shedding light on the disturbing incident that has sent shockwaves through the community.
How the Crime Was Uncovered
According to DSP Babaseyi, the case came to light following a report filed at the Ibafo Divisional Police Headquarters. The complainant informed officers that Promise, who was traveling through the area, had been murdered by security personnel attached to a private estate in Ibafo.
The police spokesperson revealed that upon receiving the report, detectives from the division immediately swung into action. Their swift response led to the apprehension of two suspects who were working as security guards at the estate.
Suspects Confess to the Crime
During interrogation, both suspects allegedly confessed to their involvement in the heinous act. The security guards admitted to killing the victim and subsequently disposing of his body in a nearby bush to cover up their tracks.
“The suspects confessed to the crime and led police operatives to where they dumped the corpse in the bush,” DSP Babaseyi stated.
Body Recovered, Investigation Ongoing
Following the confessions, the suspects led police detectives to the location where they had hidden Promise’s remains. The body has since been recovered and deposited at the mortuary for autopsy and further examination.
The Police Public Relations Officer assured the public that the investigation is still ongoing. He confirmed that the suspects would be charged to court as soon as the investigation is concluded, ensuring that justice is served for the deceased and his family.
A Growing Concern
This incident adds to growing concerns about security in the Ibafo area and the conduct of private security personnel across Ogun State. While security guards are employed to protect lives and property, cases of abuse of power and criminal conduct by some operatives continue to raise questions about proper vetting and oversight.
The Ogun State Police Command has reiterated its commitment to ensuring the safety of all residents and visitors to the state, promising to bring all perpetrators of crime to justice, regardless of their status or position.
As investigations continue, the family of the deceased and residents of the area await full disclosure of the circumstances that led to Promise’s tragic death and the motive behind the killing.
