According to reports, the armed bandits descended on the Taloka and Huda communities in separate but connected attacks, killing a man and his nephew in cold blood. As if that was not enough, the same criminals abducted the man’s daughter, his daughter-in-law, and nine other residents — bringing the total number of those kidnapped to eleven.
One Family, Unimaginable Loss
For the affected family, the pain is double — mourning the dead while desperately praying for the safe return of the living. The father lost his nephew beside him and now faces the unbearable reality of not knowing where his daughter and daughter-in-law are, or whether they are safe.
This is the everyday reality for thousands of families across Sokoto, Zamfara, Katsina, and Kebbi states, where banditry has become a full-blown humanitarian crisis.
Goronyo LGA: A Hotspot Under Siege
Goronyo Local Government Area is no stranger to these attacks. Rural communities in this axis have been repeatedly targeted by bandits who raid villages, steal livestock, kill resistors, and cart away women and young people for ransom.
Many of these communities lack adequate security presence, leaving residents vulnerable and at the mercy of criminals who operate with alarming boldness — striking in the day, striking at night, and vanishing back into the forests before any response can be mounted.

Security agencies have yet to issue an official statement on the Goronyo attacks at the time of this report.
