Gunmen have struck again on one of Niger State’s most dangerous highways, claiming yet another innocent life and throwing families into grief and uncertainty.
A commercial driver identified as Jibrin Mohammed, popularly known as “Dogon Bodies”* among his peers and passengers, has been brutally killed by terrorists operating along the **New Bussa-Ibbi road** in the *Borgu Local Government Area of Niger State.
What Happened?
According to an eyewitness account shared with Daily Trust, the gunmen blocked the road — a notorious stretch that has seen repeated attacks in recent times — before opening fire on the vehicle. Jibrin, who was simply trying to make an honest living behind the wheel, lost his life in the attack.
Three traders who were travelling on the same route were reportedly abducted by the terrorists and whisked away to an unknown location, leaving their families in agony and desperate for answers.
Another Day, Another Attack on Innocent Nigerians
This latest incident is a painful reminder of the growing insecurity crisis plaguing many states in Nigeria’s North Central region. For residents of Borgu LGA and surrounding communities, travelling on major roads has become a life-or-death gamble. Commercial drivers, traders, and ordinary Nigerians going about their daily hustle are being cut down or snatched by criminals who operate with alarming boldness.
The New Bussa-Ibbi road has increasingly become a flashpoint for bandit and terrorist activity, making it one of the most dreaded routes in Niger State.
Families Left to Mourn, Communities Living in Fear
For Jibrin’s family, the news is devastating. Like many commercial drivers across Nigeria, he likely woke up that morning thinking only of his next trip, his passengers, and providing for his loved ones. Instead, he became another statistic in Nigeria’s worsening security situation.
The three abducted traders — whose identities had not been fully disclosed at the time of this report — are believed to be locals going about their everyday business. Their families now face the agonising wait that has become all too familiar for Nigerian families in bandit-ravaged communities.
The Bigger Picture
Security experts and community leaders have repeatedly called on the Federal and Niger State governments to intensify military presence along vulnerable highways in the region. Borgu LGA, which borders Benin Republic, has long been identified as a corridor used by armed groups for kidnapping, smuggling, and other criminal activities.
As Nigerians continue to demand accountability and concrete action from their leaders, stories like Jibrin’s serve as a sobering reminder that the fight against terrorism and banditry cannot be business as usual.
Our thoughts go out to the family of Jibrin Mohammed and the loved ones of the abducted traders. We pray for the safe return of those taken and justice for those lost.
