My people, when government talk say ‘if you see something, say something’, e no be joke o! The story wey dey ground now go show you say to dey cover up for criminal na very bad market.
One man, Muhammad Sani, has just found himself in very hot soup. For where? Abuja Federal High Court. The man thought he was being a loyal friend or maybe fear catch am, but his ‘smartness’ has landed him where he no go see sunlight well well for the next 20 years.
So wetin happen exactly?
The gist be say, this Sani man had information about a very notorious bandit, one Oga wey dem dey call Danranmi. This Danranmi and his boys have been causing serious wahala, and security agencies have been looking for him.
Instead of Sani to blow whistle and help security people catch this bad guy, he decided to lock up. He played ‘I know nothing’, probably thinking say nobody go sabi.
Omo, he miscalculated finish! The long arm of the law eventually caught up with him. The Federal High Court in Abuja looked at his case and didn’t waste time at all. Seeing that he actively conspired to hide information that could lead to the capture of a wanted criminal, the judge laid down the hammer.
Na so dem knack am 20 years imprisonment. Just like that. Twenty whole years for playing loyal to a bandit.
This is a serious warning for everybody. In this time of serious security wahala, from banditry to kidnapping, sitting on information that can save lives and bring criminals to justice is a crime in itself. Loyalty to your country and community suppose pass any loyalty to criminals. Aiding and abetting no be small thing for the eyes of the law.
Twenty years is a long time, no be small thing. What do you guys think? Is the sentence a good deterrent or is it too harsh?
