As the security challenges in Nigeria continue to dominate national discourse, the respected General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG), Pastor Enoch Adeboye, has stepped up to defend President Bola Tinubu against criticisms.
In a statement, Pastor Adeboye asserted that it is unreasonable to expect the Nigerian president to personally don military fatigues and lead the fight against insecurity. He argued that the president’s role is to provide strategic leadership and direction, not to engage in frontline combat.
“You don’t expect the president to wear khaki and start fighting Boko Haram or bandits,” Adeboye said. “The president’s role is to provide the vision, the direction, and the resources for the military and security agencies to do their job.”
The renowned cleric urged Nigerians to be patient and supportive of Tinubu’s administration as it navigates the complex security landscape. He acknowledged that the task of securing the country is daunting, but expressed confidence in the president’s ability to steer the nation towards stability and progress.
“I don’t support those who are accusing the president of not doing enough,” Adeboye declared. “It’s a difficult situation, and the president needs the cooperation and prayers of all Nigerians to succeed.”
Pastor Adeboye’s remarks come at a time when the Tinubu administration is facing growing criticism over its handling of the country’s security challenges. The president has vowed to prioritize the fight against terrorism, banditry, and other forms of insecurity, but progress has been slow, with many Nigerians expressing frustration.
