As the Osun governorship election draws near, the political temperature is rising — and Governor Okpebholo is not holding back
The political arena in Nigeria just got a little more entertaining — and a little more heated. Edo State Governor, Monday Okpebholo, has taken a swipe at Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, mocking the music-loving governor over his now-famous passion for dancing.
Speaking on Thursday, August 6, Okpebholo did not mince words as he questioned whether the good people of Osun State were satisfied with four years of a governor who, in his words, has spent his tenure dancing instead of delivering governance.
“Is Osun State not tired of having a dancing governor? For four years, he has been dancing,” the Edo governor reportedly quipped — a jab that has since set tongues wagging across political circles.
The Context: August 15 Is Almost Here
The taunt comes at a crucial time — just days before the August 15 governorship election in Osun State, where Governor Adeleke will be seeking to retain his seat. Political tension is naturally at an all-time high, and it appears the APC camp is pulling no punches in their bid to unseat the PDP governor.
Okpebholo’s comments are clearly part of a broader campaign strategy — using Adeleke’s viral dancing persona to paint a picture of a governor who is more interested in owambe moments than in the serious business of governance.

His supporters, however, argue that behind the dance moves lies a governor who has been working hard for Osun people — and that Okpebholo’s mockery is simply a sign that the opposition is rattled.

As expected, Nigerians on social media have had a field day with this one. While some APC supporters cheered Okpebholo’s boldness, many Adeleke loyalists fired back, reminding critics that their governor has delivered on several fronts despite the noise.
One Twitter user wrote: “At least our governor dances with us. What does yours do?”
Another added: “Dancing governor or not, let the people of Osun decide on August 15. That’s all that matters.”
