In a move that has sparked conversations across Yobe State, Governor Mai Mala Buni has presented 17 brand new Honda vehicles to the newly elected chairmen of the All Progressives Congress (APC) across the state’s 17 local government areas.
The presentation ceremony, which took place recently, saw the Deputy Governor, Idi Barde Gubana, handing over the keys to the beneficiaries on behalf of the governor. According to Gubana, the generous gesture is designed to ease the operational challenges facing party leadership at the grassroots level.
Strengthening Grassroots Politics
Deputy Governor Gubana explained that the initiative goes beyond mere gift-giving. “This is about strengthening our party operations and enhancing grassroots mobilisation across all 17 local government areas,” he stated during the presentation.
The deputy governor didn’t mince words as he charged the new chairmen with serious responsibilities. He urged them to use the vehicles wisely and cautioned against divisive politics that could weaken the party’s structure in their respective councils.
“Avoid actions that could create division. Work towards uniting our supporters and remain vigilant against political betrayers,” Gubana warned, emphasizing the importance of unity in maintaining the party’s dominance in the state.
Clear Guidelines for Usage
The state APC chairman, Alhaji Muhammad Gadaka, also addressed the beneficiaries, expressing gratitude to stakeholders for their cooperation during the party congresses. While congratulating the new chairmen, he delivered a stern warning about the purpose of the vehicles.
“These vehicles are not for sale and should be strictly used for party activities,” Gadaka declared. “They are meant to support your activities and help you mobilise support for the party’s policies and programmes in your respective local governments.”
The chairman called on the beneficiaries to reciprocate the governor’s generosity by dedicating themselves to delivering electoral victories for the APC in their various local governments.
Working Within Party Framework
Deputy Governor Gubana also emphasized that the local government party chairmen must operate within established guidelines. He stressed the importance of adhering to APC principles and maintaining close coordination with critical stakeholders at the state level in all their activities.
This strategic move by Governor Buni appears to be part of a broader effort to consolidate the party’s presence at the grassroots level ahead of future elections. By providing practical support to party leadership, the administration is clearly investing in its political infrastructure.
As Yobe State continues to maintain its position as an APC stronghold in the Northeast, the distribution of these vehicles signals the party’s commitment to ensuring its structures remain strong and effective from the state capital down to the wards.
The question now remains: will this investment in party machinery translate to stronger mobilisation and better electoral outcomes for the APC in Yobe State? Only time will tell.
