Governor Mai Mala Buni of Yobe State has demonstrated his commitment to strengthening grassroots politics by presenting 17 brand new Honda vehicles to the newly elected chairmen of the All Progressives Congress (APC) across the state’s 17 local government areas.
The presentation ceremony, conducted by the Deputy Governor, Idi Barde Gubana, highlights the administration’s strategy to empower party operations at the grassroots level and enhance political mobilization across Yobe State.
Empowering Grassroots Politics
During the handover ceremony, Deputy Governor Gubana explained that the gesture was carefully designed to ease the responsibilities of the party chairmen and facilitate smoother operations across their respective local government areas.
“This initiative is aimed at making your activities easier and supporting party operations while strengthening grassroots mobilisation throughout our 17 local government areas,” Gubana stated while addressing the beneficiaries.
Call for Unity and Discipline
The Deputy Governor didn’t just hand over the keys and walk away. He charged the recipients with important responsibilities, urging them to use the vehicles judiciously and avoid actions that could create division within the party ranks.
Gubana specifically warned the chairmen to remain vigilant against political betrayers and work tirelessly towards uniting APC supporters across their domains. He emphasized that their role goes beyond driving around – they must serve as unifying figures in their communities.
“You must abide by the principles and guidelines of APC and liaise with the state’s critical stakeholders in all your activities,” the Deputy Governor stressed.
Party Chairman Issues Strong Warning
The state APC chairman, Alhaji Muhammad Gadaka, used the occasion to express gratitude to stakeholders for their cooperation during the recently concluded party congresses. While congratulating the beneficiaries, he made it crystal clear that the vehicles come with serious responsibilities.
Gadaka issued a stern warning that has become necessary in Nigerian politics: “The vehicles are not for sale and should be strictly used for party activities.”
He explained further: “The vehicles are meant to support your activities and help you mobilise support for the party’s policies and programmes in your respective local governments.”
The chairman called on the beneficiaries to reciprocate Governor Buni’s generous gesture by dedicating themselves to delivering electoral victory for the APC in their various local government areas.
What This Means for Yobe Politics
This development shows Governor Buni’s understanding of the critical role that well-equipped party structures play in maintaining political dominance. By providing these vehicles, the administration is investing in the machinery needed to keep the party vibrant and connected to the people at the grassroots level.
For ordinary citizens of Yobe State, this move suggests that APC is preparing to strengthen its presence in communities and possibly gear up for future electoral contests. Whether this translates to better service delivery remains to be seen, but it certainly demonstrates political strategy at work.
The gesture also sends a message to party faithful that loyalty and dedication to the party’s cause can come with tangible rewards, potentially boosting morale among party members across the state.
