Summary: Former Bayelsa Governor Senator Seriake Dickson criticizes APC’s formation and performance, calling for change in 2027 elections. Read his full take on Nigeria’s political situation.
Former Bayelsa State Governor and current Senator representing Bayelsa West, Seriake Dickson, has fired heavy shots at the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), saying the party was only formed to remove the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and former President Goodluck Jonathan from power without any genuine plan for Nigeria’s development.
The PDP chieftain, speaking during an appearance on Politics Today, a Channels Television programme, called on Nigerians to vote out the APC in the 2027 general elections, holding the party responsible for the numerous challenges currently facing the nation.
“They Had No Vision, Only Ambition to Grab Power”
Senator Dickson didn’t mince words as he criticized the circumstances surrounding APC’s formation in 2013. According to him, the party was merely a coalition of political interests united by one singular goal – to unseat President Jonathan and the PDP government – rather than a genuine vision for Nigeria’s progress.
“APC gathered together for the sake of removing the PDP and President Jonathan, and look at where we are now,” Dickson lamented. “The question every Nigerian should ask is: are we better off today than we were before 2015?”
Nigeria’s Current Challenges Under APC
The Senator pointed to various issues plaguing Nigeria under APC’s watch, including economic hardship, insecurity, rising inflation, and what many Nigerians describe as unprecedented suffering. From the naira’s continuous devaluation to the removal of fuel subsidy and its ripple effects on the cost of living, Dickson argued that the APC government has failed to deliver on its promises.
“When they were campaigning, they promised change. Yes, Nigerians got change, but not the kind of change they hoped for,” he said, echoing a sentiment shared by many Nigerians across the country.
A Call to Action for 2027
Looking ahead to the next election cycle, Senator Dickson urged Nigerian voters to use their permanent voter cards (PVCs) wisely and vote for competent leadership that will prioritize the welfare of citizens over partisan politics.
“2027 is not far away. Nigerians must come together and make the right decision. We cannot continue like this. Our people are suffering, and we need leaders with genuine concern for the masses, not those who only remember the people during election season,” he declared.
Political Reactions and the Road Ahead
As expected, Dickson’s comments have sparked reactions across Nigeria’s political landscape. While PDP faithful and opposition supporters have rallied behind his statements, APC members have dismissed his criticisms as typical opposition rhetoric.
However, beyond partisan lines, many everyday Nigerians seem to agree with the Senator’s assessment of the current state of affairs. From the bustling markets of Lagos to the streets of Kano, from Port Harcourt to Abuja, citizens are increasingly vocal about their frustration with the economic hardship and governance challenges.
The question now remains: will the 2027 elections bring the change Nigerians desperately seek, or will it be another cycle of unfulfilled promises? Only time – and the voters – will tell.
