A 22-year-old pregnant Ghanaian woman, Priscilla Sackey, is desperately appealing to authorities to release her husband from prison, even though he was convicted of assaulting her. Her husband, Richard Adjei, is currently serving a six-year jail term for domestic violence against her.
According to Priscilla, she never intended for her husband to end up behind bars. She only wanted the police to warn him and make him stop beating her. However, what started as a cry for help has turned into a situation she now deeply regrets.
How It All Happened
Speaking to Crime Check, Priscilla explained the chain of events that led to her husband’s imprisonment:
“On the day my husband was arrested, he assaulted me, and I went to report him to the police. When the police came to arrest him, he was not home. When he came back, he subjected me to beatings for reporting him to the police. This angered my aunt, who reported him again, leading to his arrest.”
The situation escalated when Richard discovered that Priscilla had involved the police. Instead of calming down, he attacked her again—a move that prompted her aunt to step in and report him once more. This second report resulted in his arrest and eventual conviction.
A Desperate Plea
Now pregnant and struggling, Priscilla says she needs Richard back home to help take care of their child. The couple, who have been married for two years, are facing a difficult situation as both families have reportedly abandoned her.
“At least, if Richard were here, he would have worked to take care of us. Please help me get him released,” she pleaded emotionally.
Priscilla admits she regrets the actions that led to her husband’s imprisonment, saying she feels isolated and unsupported by both her family and her in-laws.
A Complex Situation
This case highlights the complicated reality many victims of domestic violence face. While seeking help and reporting abuse is the right thing to do, some women later find themselves torn between justice and economic survival—especially when family support systems fail them.
The situation also raises questions about support structures for victims of domestic violence, particularly pregnant women who may find themselves financially dependent on their abusers.

This story serves as a reminder of the importance of having strong support systems for victims of domestic violence, as well as the need for economic empowerment programs for vulnerable women.
