The Oyo State Police Command has dealt a major blow to criminal elements terrorizing Ibadan residents, arresting six suspected one-chance operators who had been using tricycles (keke NAPEP) to rob unsuspecting victims across the state capital.
How They Were Caught
Acting on credible intelligence from vigilant residents, police operatives swooped on a hotel in the 7UP/Academy area of Ibadan where the suspects were hiding. The well-coordinated sting operation led to the arrest of the entire gang, bringing relief to many who have fallen victim to their criminal activities.
The suspects have been identified as:
– Kelvin Daniel (21-year-old male)
– Idris Ramon (25-year-old male)
– Christopher Solomon (35-year-old male)
– Mohamed Telim (21-year-old male)
– Taored Aderibigbe (30-year-old male)
– Adekunle Tolani (27-year-old female)
Evidence of Their Crime Spree
During the operation, police recovered damning evidence from the suspects, including:
– Eighteen (18) different mobile phones (likely stolen from victims)
– One Opay ATM card
– One National Identification Number (NIN) card
– One tricycle bearing registration number OYO SHK 508 QP – the operational vehicle used by the syndicate
Confessions and Next Steps
According to DSP Alayande Olayinka, the Command’s Public Relations Officer, preliminary investigations revealed that the suspects have confessed to being members of a criminal syndicate that has been terrorizing residents of Ibadan metropolis.
The police spokesperson assured the public that investigations are ongoing and all suspects will be charged to court upon conclusion. “Further developments will be communicated in due course,” Olayinka stated.
A Warning to Criminals, A Win for Residents
This arrest serves as a stern warning to criminal elements operating in Oyo State that the long arm of the law will eventually catch up with them. It also highlights the importance of community cooperation with security agencies – the arrest was made possible through intelligence provided by concerned citizens.
For Ibadan residents who have been wary of boarding tricycles for fear of one-chance operators, this development brings some measure of relief, though caution should always be exercised when using public transportation.
The Oyo State Police Command continues to urge residents to remain vigilant and report suspicious activities to the nearest police station or through their emergency lines.
