A food vendor operating in Lagos state has raised an alarm over the crippling power situation in her area, revealing how the electricity crisis is eating deep into her business profits.

The vendor, identified simply as Peace, took to social media to express her frustration over the abysmal state of power supply she has been experiencing. In a video that has since gone viral, Peace disclosed that she has not enjoyed up to two hours of electricity in the last five days.

The Financial Burden of No Light

For someone whose business depends heavily on refrigeration to keep food items fresh, the power outage has proven to be a financial nightmare. Peace revealed that she has been forced to spend a staggering N100,000 on fuel within just five days to power her generator and preserve her perishable goods.

“I have not seen light up to two hours in five days. I have spent N100,000 buying fuel just to preserve my food items,” she lamented in the video.

This situation is not just about discomfort—it’s about survival. For small business owners like Peace, every naira counts, and having to divert such a huge sum from potential profit to fuel expenses can be devastating.

A Plea to Lagos State Government

In her emotional appeal, Peace called on the Lagos State Government to urgently address the poor power supply affecting her area and countless others across the state.

The electricity problem has remained one of the most persistent challenges facing businesses and residents in Lagos, despite being Nigeria’s commercial hub. Small and medium enterprises, especially those in the food business, bear the brunt of this crisis as they struggle to keep their businesses afloat while spending heavily on alternative power sources.

As at the time of this report, there has been no official response from the relevant authorities regarding Peace’s complaint.
