In what can only be described as a miraculous escape, the wife and son of prominent Kwara State petrol dealer, Alhaji Abass—popularly known as Daniyan Saba—have regained their freedom after fleeing from their kidnappers.

The Ordeal Begins

The nightmare started when armed gunmen invaded Ndeji community in Lafiagi Emirate, Edu Local Government Area of Kwara State, during the early hours of Saturday morning. The criminals stormed the peaceful community, spreading fear among residents before abducting the businessman’s wife and son to an undisclosed location.

This latest incident adds to the family’s ongoing security challenges. Many Nigerians will recall that Alhaji Abass himself was previously kidnapped and spent more than a month in captivity before his eventual release.

A Daring Escape

According to reports that emerged on Tuesday, the victims managed to escape and were later found in Oreke community. Gina Muhammad, a vigilante commander in Gbugbu, confirmed the development while speaking with journalists on Wednesday, March 11.

“We learnt it was while the kidnappers were trying to take them across the Kogi highway that they escaped,” Muhammad explained. He added that it remains unclear whether any ransom was paid before their escape.

The Family’s Previous Trauma

This recent incident is particularly heartbreaking given the family’s history with kidnappers. Alhaji Abass had previously revealed that he and his manager, Mallam Abubakar Issa, were only released after a staggering N105 million ransom was paid to their captors.

The astronomical sum highlights the devastating financial and emotional toll that kidnapping continues to have on Nigerian families and businesses.

Growing Security Concerns in Kwara

The repeated targeting of the same family raises serious questions about security in the region and the vulnerability of businesspeople. The Edu Local Government Area has witnessed increased criminal activities in recent times, with kidnapping becoming an unfortunate reality for many residents.

The successful escape of Alhaji Abass’s wife and son is a rare piece of good news in what has become an increasingly dangerous environment for law-abiding citizens.

Community Response

Local vigilante groups have stepped up their efforts to protect communities from these criminal elements. However, the sophistication and boldness of these kidnapping gangs continue to challenge security arrangements in rural areas.

As Nigerians celebrate the safe return of this family, many are calling on security agencies to intensify efforts to rid the nation of this menace that has caused untold hardship to families across the country.

The escape serves as a reminder of both the resilience of victims and the urgent need for improved security infrastructure in vulnerable communities.
