Summary: Kano State Hisbah Board arrests two teenage boys, Umar Yahaya and Musa Al-Hassan, for allegedly planning a controversial birthday celebration during Eid-el-Fitr festivities.
The Kano State Hisbah Board has apprehended two teenage boys for allegedly organizing what authorities describe as an inappropriate birthday celebration planned to coincide with the upcoming Eid-el-Fitr festivities.
The teenagers, identified as 19-year-old Umar Yahaya and 18-year-old Musa Al-Hassan, were taken into custody following intelligence reports about their plans to host a large gathering immediately after Eid prayers in Kano.
Details of the Arrest
Deputy Command General of the Hisbah Board, Mujahideen Aminudeen, confirmed the development in a statement released on Tuesday, March 10, 2026. According to him, the young men had been using social media platforms to invite guests from across Nigeria to attend the birthday party.
“It is unfortunate and upsetting that some young people, whose ages are still very small, such as Umar Yahaya (19 years old) and Musa Al-Hassan (18 years old), claim to be Yan Daudu (pimps) and even invite others who identify the same,” the Hisbah official stated.
The teenagers allegedly planned for attendees to gather after Eid prayers for celebrations that the religious enforcement agency deemed inappropriate and contrary to Islamic teachings.
Hisbah’s Concerns
Aminudeen expressed concern that such activities would undermine the spiritual benefits gained during the holy month of Ramadan. He noted that the teenagers even mentioned the Hisbah Board and its leadership while extending their invitations, which he described as disrespectful.
“They were calling people from everywhere to attend. Out of disrespect, they even mentioned Hisbah and its leadership while inviting people,” he said.
The Deputy Command General added that the board had issued strict instructions to its commanders to take firm action against anyone found engaging in what it considers immoral conduct.
Rehabilitation Over Punishment
In a statement that highlights the board’s approach to the matter, Aminudeen revealed that the arrested teenagers have apologized and shown remorse for their actions. Rather than pursuing immediate prosecution, the Hisbah Board has opted for a rehabilitation approach.
“When we examined the situation, we realized that they did not even understand the religion properly. They lacked knowledge of Islam, proper conduct, and even a clear understanding of life. They are still very young and inexperienced, and there was nothing meaningful guiding them,” he explained.
According to Aminudeen, the teenagers will remain under the board’s supervision to receive proper religious guidance and counseling.
“We will continue to guide and support them, teaching them religion so that they understand prayer, good character, and responsibility, and help them find productive things to do so that they become well-behaved and responsible youths. Because if these children are simply taken to court or imprisoned, it may not help them,” he added.
Enhanced Ramadan Monitoring
The Hisbah official also announced plans to deploy personnel across various mosques in Kano during the final days of Ramadan to enhance security and monitor activities during night prayers and spiritual retreats.
“When the month of Ramadan reaches its final days, it is a time when the community should intensify their efforts, strengthen their determination, and increase their prayers, worship, night prayers (Qiyam al-Layl), and other good deeds,” Aminudeen said.
However, he noted that the board has received complaints about some individuals who attend Tahajjud prayers with ulterior motives.
“After the Tarawih prayers, some places turn into areas where men and women meet privately, hence the decision to monitor the situation,” he stated.
The Hisbah Board’s actions reflect its ongoing efforts to enforce what it considers proper Islamic conduct in Kano State, particularly during the holy month of Ramadan and the approaching Eid-el-Fitr celebrations.
As the situation continues to generate discussion across social media platforms, the board maintains that its primary focus remains on rehabilitation and spiritual guidance rather than punitive measures, especially when dealing with young offenders.
