The Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Rilwan Disu, has appointed Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Anthony Okon Placid as the new Force Public Relations Officer (FPRO), taking over from ACP Benjamin Hundeyin.

Hundeyin, while handing over, described his successor as “a seasoned officer with extensive experience in administration, operations, intelligence, training, and international peacekeeping.” This appointment brings a wealth of experience to the critical position of Police spokesman, a role that serves as the bridge between the Nigeria Police Force and the Nigerian public.

Meet the New Police Spokesman

Born on December 2, 1970, DCP Placid hails from Mbiokporo Nsit in Nsit Ibom Local Government Area of Akwa Ibom State. His academic credentials are impressive and diverse: he holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Geography and Regional Planning from the University of Uyo, a Master of Arts in Law and Diplomacy from the University of Jos, and a Bachelor of Laws (LL.B) from the National Open University of Nigeria.

DCP Placid joined the Nigeria Police Force in 1996 as a Cadet Assistant Superintendent of Police at the prestigious Police Academy in Kano and was commissioned in August 1998. Since then, he has built a distinguished career spanning nearly three decades.

International Experience and Professional Training

What sets DCP Placid apart is his extensive international peacekeeping experience. He has attended numerous professional courses both locally and internationally, including United Nations Peace Operations Specialised Training (POST) and the UNITAR Senior Leadership and Peacebuilding course in Kenya.

– Divisional Police Officer in Federal Housing Calabar, Bakassi, Uruan, and Gembu
– Officer-in-Charge of the Anti-Robbery Unit in Kaduna State
– African Union Election Security Adviser
– Assistant Commissioner of Police overseeing operations and intelligence in Akwa Ibom, Kogi, and Abia States

Professional Affiliations and Recent Achievement

The new Force PRO is a member of the International Association of Chiefs of Police (IACP), a Commonwealth Human Rights Trainer, and an International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) Trainer on International Humanitarian Law.

Most recently, DCP Placid graduated from the Senior Executive Course (SEC 47) of the National Institute for Policy and Strategic Studies (NIPSS), Kuru, and was inducted as a Member of the National Institute (mni) on December 13, 2025—just weeks before his new appointment.
