Summary: Oyo State Police Command arrests three suspects including a pastor and Islamic cleric for possession and sale of human parts in Ibadan. Full details of the investigation.

In a development that has sent shockwaves across Ibadan, the Oyo State Police Command has apprehended three suspects caught with human parts, including a Christian pastor and an Islamic cleric.

The arrest, which was announced on 24th March, 2026, by the Command’s spokesperson, DSP Ayanlade Olayinka, has once again brought to the fore the disturbing issue of ritual killings and trade in human body parts in Nigeria.

How the Arrest Happened

According to the police report, the case unraveled during a routine stop-and-search operation along Adekile area of Agugu, Ibadan. A patrol team stopped an unregistered Bajaj Boxer motorcycle, and upon searching the pillion, officers discovered a package containing what appeared to be human intestines.

The rider, identified as Oyategbe Joseph from Ibadan, was immediately arrested on the spot.

The Disturbing Confession

Under interrogation, Oyategbe Joseph made shocking revelations that led to further arrests. He confessed that he obtained the suspected human parts from an unknown person at Oritaperin area and had been selling them to two prominent individuals in the community:

Alfa Onaolapo Taiwo, a 46-year-old Islamic cleric
Pastor Ayodele Taiwo, a 55-year-old Christian pastor

Acting swiftly on this information, police operatives tracked down and arrested both the Alfa and the Pastor. During their interrogation, both religious leaders admitted to purchasing the suspected human parts from Oyategbe Joseph.

Police Response and Investigation

The Commissioner of Police for Oyo State has ordered that the case be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (CID) for thorough and discreet investigation. All three suspects remain in police custody and will be charged to court upon conclusion of the investigation.

In an official statement, the Police Command emphasized its commitment to proactive policing and protection of lives and public health in Oyo State.

“The Oyo State Police Command wishes to inform members of the public of a recent arrest involving the unlawful possession and sale of suspected human parts in Ibadan, highlighting the Command’s commitment to proactive policing and the protection of lives and public health,” the statement read.

Call for Public Vigilance

The police have urged all Oyo State residents to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities to the nearest police station or security agency.

The Command stressed that community cooperation remains critical in maintaining law and order and fighting the menace of ritual killings and trade in human body parts.

This arrest serves as a reminder that ritual-related crimes cut across religious and social divides. It’s particularly disturbing that those arrested include religious leaders who should ordinarily be shepherding their congregations away from such evil practices.

As investigations continue, many Nigerians will be watching to see if justice will truly be served in this case, and whether it will serve as a deterrent to others involved in this heinous trade.

The Oyo State Police Command can be reached on their emergency lines for anyone with useful information that could aid this investigation or prevent similar crimes.
