Summary: Nollywood actress Sarah Martins has apologized to Lagos Commissioner for Environment, Tokunbo Wahab, after being called out for cooking on the street despite previous warnings from the state government.
Nollywood actress Sarah Martins has publicly apologized to the Lagos State Commissioner for Environment and Water Resources, Tokunbo Wahab, after he called her out for cooking on the road despite earlier warnings from the government.
The actress, known for her charitable work of cooking for destitutes and hungry street children, had been previously banned by the Lagos State government from cooking on the road. According to authorities, her well-intentioned actions posed safety risks and violated the state’s traffic laws.
The Return to the Streets
After staying away for some time, Sarah returned to the streets last week to cook for the vulnerable children she had missed. However, her action did not go unnoticed by the Lagos State government.
On Saturday, March 7, Commissioner Wahab released a statement condemning the actress’s return to street cooking. He expressed surprise that she had resumed the activity despite being cautioned before.
“While we appreciate her philanthropic efforts, cooking on the road is not permitted in Lagos State,” the Commissioner stated, warning that continued violation could lead to apprehension and prosecution.
Sarah’s Heartfelt Apology
In response to the Commissioner’s call-out, Sarah Martins took to her Instagram page to tender a public apology and clarify the circumstances surrounding her recent cooking activity.
In her lengthy post, the actress explained that she did not cook on the main walkway or street, but rather in front of a King’s Palace under security supervision, far from the main road.
“The visit was simply born out of an emotional moment. I had deeply missed the bond I share with the vulnerable street children in that area,” she wrote.
Sarah further explained that whenever she drives past the area, the children often plead with her to return and cook with them as she used to do.
The Charity Kitchen Arrangement
The actress also highlighted that Seyi Tinubu had generously empowered her foundation with a charity kitchen specifically designed for organized feeding programs. She emphasized that she has not taken this generosity for granted and that her foundation has remained committed to using the facility for regular feeding initiatives.
“My brief return to that location was never intended to create any form of public nuisance, but simply to share a heartfelt moment with children who have continued to ask for my presence,” Sarah explained.
She concluded her apology by assuring the Commissioner and the Lagos State government that all future cooking activities would be conducted strictly within the charity kitchen provided for her foundation.
“I hold the laws and environmental standards of Lagos State in the highest regard,” she affirmed.
The incident has sparked conversations on social media about balancing philanthropic intentions with adherence to government regulations, especially in a state as busy and regulated as Lagos.
As it stands, Sarah Martins has committed to channeling her charitable spirit through the proper facilities going forward, while maintaining her passion for helping vulnerable street children in Lagos.
