A Nigerian lady has opened up about one of the most painful experiences of her life – discovering her boyfriend was getting married to another woman just hours after she helped him shop for drinks at a mall.
Chioma Onwuesi shared the throwback photo and her emotional story on Facebook, revealing how she unknowingly played a part in her ex-boyfriend’s wedding preparations without having any idea what was coming.
The Shocking Revelation
According to Chioma, who posted her story on Tuesday, March 17, the incident happened several years ago, but the memory still stays fresh. She recounted how she accompanied her then-boyfriend to a shopping mall where they bought drinks together – drinks she later realized were meant for his wedding to another woman.
“This was the day I escorted my ex to buy drinks at the mall, not knowing he was getting married the next day,” she wrote in her emotional Facebook post. “I chose most of the drinks he bought.”
The bombshell dropped immediately after he took her picture at the mall. That same day, he broke the news to her that he was getting married – but not to her.
The Reason: Tribal Differences
What makes this story even more painful is the reason he gave for choosing another woman over her. According to Chioma, her ex-boyfriend, who hails from Nnewi in Anambra State, claimed his mother forbade him from marrying a woman from Imo State.
“He said his mum told him that he can’t get married to a woman from Imo State (he is from Nnewi),” Chioma revealed.
This issue of tribal or state preferences in marriage remains a sensitive topic in many Nigerian families, where parents sometimes influence their children’s choice of life partners based on cultural or regional considerations.
She Thought He Was Joking
Chioma admitted she initially couldn’t believe what she was hearing. After investing her whole heart into the relationship, she thought he was playing a cruel joke on her.
“I thought he was playing because I gave my all in that relationship,” she wrote.
But the reality hit hard when he called the other woman right in front of her and put the phone on speaker, confirming that he was indeed getting married the next day.
Can you imagine the pain of that moment? Standing there while your boyfriend calls another woman to discuss wedding plans – plans you had just unknowingly helped with by selecting drinks at the mall?
Moving Forward
Despite the heartbreak, Chioma says she has since moved on with her life. She came across the photo while scrolling through her phone and decided to share the experience with her Facebook followers.
“It happened a few years ago shaa and I have moved on. Just scrolling through my phone and I saw this picture, I decided to share with you guys,” she concluded.
The Bigger Picture
Chioma’s story highlights several issues that many Nigerian women can relate to:
1. Parental Interference in Relationships: Many young Nigerians have faced similar situations where parents reject their choice of partner based on tribe, state of origin, religion, or other factors.
2. Lack of Communication: Her ex-boyfriend’s inability to communicate his family’s stance earlier in the relationship caused unnecessary pain and wasted time.
3. Emotional Manipulation: Using someone to help with wedding preparations while keeping them in the dark about the wedding itself shows a disturbing level of emotional cruelty.
4. The Strength to Move On: Despite the betrayal, Chioma’s ability to heal and move forward is inspiring to many women who have experienced similar heartbreak.
Her story has resonated with many Nigerians on social media, with people sharing their own experiences and offering words of encouragement.
