The fragile peace in Jibia Local Government Area of Katsina State was shattered on Tuesday, March 17, 2026, when suspected bandits unleashed terror on Falele village in Daddara district, leaving at least 15 people dead.

The tragic incident, which occurred around 1:30 p.m., began when armed bandits stormed the community, sparking a fierce gun battle with local community guards and vigilante groups who have become the first line of defence in many Northern Nigerian communities.

What Happened in Falele Village

According to the Katsina State Commissioner of Internal Security and Home Affairs, Nasir Mua’zu, the violence started when vigilantes from the affected villages confronted repentant bandits, leading to the deaths of three persons. However, this initial clash triggered a brutal reprisal attack that claimed additional innocent lives across Falele and nearby Kadobe village.

“The Katsina State Government has confirmed that a violent clash occurred in Falale and Kadobe villages in Jibia Local Government Area on March 17, 2026,” Commissioner Mua’zu said in an official statement released on Tuesday.

“The incident resulted in the loss of 15 lives, but security forces have since restored order and stabilised the situation.”

Joint Security Response Prevents Further Bloodshed

In response to the escalating violence, a combined team of security operatives including personnel from the Nigeria Police Force, Department of State Services (DSS), Civilian Watch (C-Watch), and community leaders swung into action to contain the situation.

The Commissioner praised the collaborative effort, stating: “This collaborative effort demonstrates the strength of our security partnership and community engagement. The joint operation prevented further loss of life and restored peace to the affected villages.”

Government Appeals for Calm, Vows Justice

While appealing to residents to remain calm and allow security forces to complete their investigation, Commissioner Mua’zu acknowledged the pain and anguish of families who lost loved ones in the attack.

“We understand the pain and loss experienced by the families affected. We are committed to ensuring justice and preventing future incidents,” he assured.

Governor Malam Dikko Umaru Radda’s administration has reaffirmed its commitment to securing lives and property across Katsina State despite the setback.

Over One Year of Peace Broken

The attack is particularly devastating because Jibia Local Government Area had enjoyed relative peace for over a year, thanks to strategic security measures deployed by the Radda-led administration.

“It should be emphasised that Jibia local government has been peaceful for over one year as a result of strategic security responses deployed by Radda’s led administration,” the Commissioner noted.

Call for Community Cooperation

The state government is urging all residents to report suspicious activities to security agencies, emphasizing that community cooperation remains critical to achieving sustainable peace and security across Katsina State.

“Governor Malam Dikko Umaru Radda’s administration remains focused on bringing lasting peace to Katsina State. Nothing will distract us from our commitment to secure lives and property. We will remain resolute in our efforts,” Commissioner Mua’zu declared.

The incident serves as a grim reminder of the ongoing security challenges facing communities in Northwestern Nigeria, where bandits continue to terrorize rural areas despite government efforts to restore peace and normalcy.

As investigations continue, residents of Jibia and surrounding communities remain on high alert, hoping that security agencies will bring the perpetrators to justice and prevent further attacks.
