Summary: Senator Seriake Dickson criticizes APC’s 2015 formation, calling for their removal in 2027 elections. The Bayelsa lawmaker says Nigeria has changed “from bad to worse” under APC leadership.

Former Bayelsa State Governor and current Senator representing Bayelsa West, Seriake Dickson, has come out strongly against the All Progressives Congress (APC), calling on Nigerians to vote them out in the 2027 general elections.

Speaking on Channels Television’s Politics Today, the senator did not mince words as he blamed the ruling party for the many challenges Nigeria is facing today.

“They Only Gathered to Remove Jonathan”

Dickson took Nigerians down memory lane to 2015 when various opposition parties merged to form the APC with one mission: remove the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and President Goodluck Jonathan from power.

“They gathered together for the sake of removing the PDP and President Jonathan… and look at where we are now,” the senator said with obvious frustration.

According to Dickson, the problem with APC from the beginning was that they had no clear plan for governance beyond winning power. Their only agenda was “Change” — a campaign slogan that captured the imagination of millions of Nigerians who were tired of PDP’s long reign.

“No one asked, ‘What are you gathering for when you win power?’ They just said, ‘Change,'” Dickson recalled.

“Change Can Be From Bad to Worse”

The senator pointed out that change is not always positive, and Nigerians have learned this lesson the hard way under APC leadership.

“Change can be both ways… you can change from bad to worse, as the APC has done,” he stated bluntly.

This statement will resonate with many Nigerians who feel that the country’s situation has deteriorated significantly since 2015. From rising food prices to increased insecurity and economic hardship, the reality on ground for average Nigerians paints a grim picture.

APC Has Failed on All Fronts

Senator Dickson did not spare any area as he listed what he considers the APC’s failures:

Insecurity: Despite promises to defeat Boko Haram and restore peace, Nigeria has witnessed an explosion of banditry, kidnapping, and terrorism across the country. From the Northwest to the Southeast, citizens live in fear.

Economy: The naira has crashed to historic lows, inflation is at record highs, and the cost of living has skyrocketed. Many Nigerian families struggle to afford basic necessities like food and transportation.

Corruption: Ironically, the party that campaigned on fighting corruption now faces accusations of unprecedented financial mismanagement. “People talk now, calculate monies now in trillions, monies they probably don’t even need,” Dickson said, referring to the massive sums involved in alleged corrupt practices.

Democratic Governance: Questions about electoral integrity, respect for rule of law, and democratic norms have continued to trail the APC government.

What This Means for 2027

With Senator Dickson’s call for APC’s removal in 2027, it’s clear that opposition parties, particularly the PDP, are already positioning themselves for the next election cycle.

The question many Nigerians are asking is: Will the opposition present a credible alternative, or will it be a case of “jumping from frying pan to fire”?

As the 2027 elections draw closer, Nigerians will be watching closely to see if any party can offer genuine solutions to the country’s problems, not just promises of “change” without substance.

For now, Senator Dickson has thrown down the gauntlet, and the battle for Nigeria’s political future has begun in earnest.
