Australian actress and comedian Rebel Wilson has publicly accused billionaire Len Blavatnik of bankrolling several lawsuits against her in an escalating legal drama that has crossed international borders.
The “Pitch Perfect” star took to Instagram Stories to blast the wealthy businessman, alleging he has refused to help her despite her complaints about misconduct on the set of her directorial debut film, “The Deb.”
The Heart of the Matter
According to Wilson, she personally travelled to New York to meet with Blavatnik, seeking his intervention regarding three individuals she claims worked for him: Amanda Ghost, Gregor Cameron, and Vince Holden. Instead of receiving support, Wilson says the billionaire turned his financial power against her.
“He funded four lawsuits across two continents against me,” Wilson claimed in her social media posts. However, sources close to the situation suggest the actual number may be three lawsuits.
What Started the Legal Battle
The controversy stems from serious allegations Wilson made about the production of “The Deb.” The actress claimed that $900,000 (approximately ₦1.4 billion at current exchange rates) had been embezzled from the film’s budget. She also accused producer Amanda Ghost of s3xually harassing the film’s lead actress, Charlotte MacInnes.
These accusations prompted the producers to file a defamation lawsuit against Wilson. Sources close to Ghost have strongly denied all allegations, while MacInnes herself has reportedly publicly rejected the harassment claims.
A judge has already dismissed several of Wilson’s counterclaims in the case, suggesting the legal tide may not be flowing in her favour.
The Epstein Connection
In a controversial move, Wilson also referenced Blavatnik’s name appearing in documents linked to disgraced financier Jeffrey Epstein. She shared what appeared to be an email showing Epstein asking an associate to contact Blavatnik about a job offer for a third party.
It’s important to note that there are no allegations suggesting Blavatnik engaged in any wrongdoing connected to that email or to Epstein’s criminal activities.
Silence from the Billionaire’s Camp
Representatives for Len Blavatnik have declined to comment on Wilson’s public accusations, maintaining silence as the actress continues to speak out on social media.
What This Means
The legal battle surrounding “The Deb” shows no signs of cooling down. With cases unfolding across multiple jurisdictions and both sides firmly contesting the allegations, this Hollywood drama is far from over.
For Wilson, the fight appears personal. She maintains that her initial concerns about behaviour on set were legitimate and deserving of attention, not legal retaliation. For the producers and Blavatnik’s associated parties, the defamation lawsuit represents their attempt to clear their names from what they view as false and damaging accusations.
As Nigerians know all too well from our own Nollywood disputes, when money, reputation, and artistic vision collide, the resulting legal drama can be as compelling as any movie script.
This story is developing, and more details are expected to emerge as the lawsuits progress through the courts.
