Summary: Troops of Operation Hadin Kai apprehend two suspected Boko Haram informants during early morning operation in Damboa LGA, Borno State, recovering weapons and communication devices.

In a significant security operation that demonstrates the ongoing efforts to tackle insurgency in the Northeast, troops of Operation Hadin Kai have arrested two men suspected of providing intelligence to Boko Haram and ISWAP terrorists in Borno State.

Details of the Arrest

The suspects, identified as Musa Alhaji Isah (28) and Akona Alhaji (30), were apprehended during the early hours of Sunday, March 23, 2026, at approximately 5:30 a.m. The arrest was carried out by soldiers of the 25 Brigade during their routine security operations in Damboa Local Government Area.

Both men hail from Shiwari community within the same local government area and were intercepted under suspicious circumstances in what military sources describe as “Serial 7 general area” – an outer deployment zone that serves as a gateway to the notorious Timbuktu Triangle, a well-known stronghold of terrorist elements.

What Was Found

During the arrest, security operatives recovered several items from the suspects that have raised serious concerns about their activities. The items include:

– Two bicycles
– One mobile phone
– Three daggers
– A torchlight
– A wristwatch
– Traditional charms
– Cash totalling N6,900

Suspected Reconnaissance Mission

According to military intelligence sources familiar with the operation, preliminary investigations suggest that the two suspects may have been conducting reconnaissance – essentially gathering information about military positions and movements for terrorist groups operating in the area.

The timing and location of their interception, combined with the items found in their possession, have strengthened suspicions that they were working as informants for insurgent elements that continue to threaten communities in the region.

Current Status

The suspects are currently being held by the Military Intelligence Response unit, where they are undergoing further interrogation and investigation. Military authorities are working to establish the full extent of their alleged connection to terrorist organizations and whether they have been involved in previous attacks or planning.

The Broader Security Picture

This arrest highlights the complex security challenges facing Borno State and the wider Northeast region. Despite significant progress made by Nigerian security forces in degrading the capacity of Boko Haram and ISWAP, terrorist groups continue to rely on local informants to gather intelligence and plan attacks.

Operation Hadin Kai, which replaced Operation Lafiya Dole in 2021, remains committed to eliminating terrorist threats and restoring peace to communities that have suffered years of insurgency. The operation involves coordinated efforts by the Nigerian Army, Air Force, Navy, and other security agencies.

Community Safety Remains Priority

The successful apprehension of suspected informants demonstrates the vigilance of Nigerian troops and the importance of intelligence-led operations in counter-insurgency efforts. It also sends a strong message to those who may be considering collaborating with terrorist elements.

As investigations continue, security agencies urge residents of Borno State and surrounding areas to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities to the appropriate authorities. The cooperation between security forces and local communities remains crucial in the fight against terrorism in the region.
