The Ondo State Police Command has successfully apprehended three suspects connected to a disturbing kidnapping incident that was captured on CCTV camera in the Oda area of Akure. The incident, which has generated widespread outrage across social media platforms, showed the moment a woman was forcefully abducted right in front of her helpless child.

The Shocking Incident

The CCTV footage that went viral on social media showed the traumatic moment when suspected kidnappers grabbed their victim, a woman, in broad daylight at Oda, Akure. The most heartbreaking part of the video captured the victim’s young child running into the house in panic immediately after witnessing her mother being taken away by the assailants.

The footage sparked massive reactions online, with many Nigerians calling for swift action from security agencies to combat the rising cases of kidnapping in the country.

Swift Police Response

In a statement released on Sunday, March 22, the command’s spokesperson, DSP Abayomi Jimoh, revealed that the police swung into action immediately after the CCTV footage came to their attention. The command activated its intelligence team and deployed digital surveillance analysis alongside coordinated field operations to track down the perpetrators.

According to DSP Jimoh, operatives from the command’s Anti-Kidnapping Squad conducted targeted operations based on credible intelligence and investigative leads obtained from analyzing the footage. These efforts led to the arrest of the first suspect.

Breakthrough in Investigation

During interrogation, the initial suspect provided crucial information that enabled the police to apprehend two additional accomplices. All three suspects were captured in the viral CCTV footage and are believed to have played active roles in executing the kidnapping operation.

The arrested suspects have been identified as:
Mohammed Koro (male, 27 years)
Muhammad Usman (male, 30 years)
Musa Alhaji (male, 23 years)

Three Victims Rescued

In what can be described as a major victory for the security forces, preliminary investigations and confessional statements from the suspects led to the successful rescue of three other victims who had been previously kidnapped by the same criminal syndicate.

The rescued victims are:
1. Tosin Adesida (Female)
2. Adeniran Adesuyi (Male)
3. Adewunmi Adewusi (Male)

All three rescued victims have been debriefed by the police and taken to the nearest hospital for proper medical attention and evaluation.

Ongoing Investigation

DSP Jimoh disclosed that the suspects have made useful confessional statements that are currently aiding ongoing efforts to apprehend other members of the kidnapping syndicate still at large.

“The suspects will be charged to court upon the conclusion of investigations,” the police spokesperson stated.

Public Reactions

The incident has once again brought the issue of kidnapping and insecurity in Nigeria to the forefront of national discourse. Many Nigerians have commended the Ondo State Police Command for their swift response and professional handling of the case, while also calling for sustained efforts to rid the state and the entire country of criminal elements.

The use of CCTV footage in cracking this case has also reinforced calls for more businesses, residential areas, and public spaces to install surveillance cameras as a deterrent to criminal activities and an aid to law enforcement agencies.

As investigations continue, residents of Ondo State and neighbouring communities are urged to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities to the nearest police station or through emergency response channels.

The Ondo State Police Command continues to assure residents of their commitment to ensuring the safety and security of lives and property across the state.
