Summary: A 46-year-old woman has been killed by a mob in Zambia after being accused of having mystical powers to make men’s private parts vanish. Police have arrested eight suspects.

A tragic incident of mob justice has claimed the life of a 46-year-old woman in Kalumbila District, Zambia, after she was accused of possessing supernatural powers to make men’s private parts disappear.

The deceased, identified as Eneless Hellen Kamutumbe, was brutally attacked by an angry mob on Friday, March 20, 2026, between 11:00 AM and 1:00 PM in the Kisasa area.

How the Incident Unfolded

According to police reports, trouble started when a 25-year-old man named Prince Ntambo raised an alarm at a local market, claiming that his manhood had suddenly vanished after coming into contact with the woman.

The accusation immediately sparked panic among traders and shoppers at the market. Within minutes, a crowd had gathered and turned into an angry mob, determined to deal with the woman they believed possessed evil powers.

Armed with sticks, stones, planks, and other dangerous objects, the mob descended on the helpless woman, beating her mercilessly.

Failed Rescue Attempt

A brave member of the public who witnessed the attack attempted to save the woman by hiding her in a nearby house. Unfortunately, the enraged crowd followed them, dragged her out, and continued the brutal assault.

When police officers arrived at the scene to rescue the victim, they too became targets. The mob attacked them with stones, making it nearly impossible for them to intervene effectively.

Three police officers sustained injuries during the chaos, and the windscreen of their patrol vehicle was completely smashed by the rampaging crowd.

Woman Dies from Injuries

The sustained beating proved fatal. The woman later died from the severe injuries she suffered during the assault. Her body was callously dumped along the Mwinilunga-Solwezi Road before police could retrieve it.

She was rushed to Wumi Mini Hospital, where medical personnel pronounced her dead on arrival. Her body has been deposited in the mortuary, awaiting a postmortem examination.

Eight Suspects Arrested

Police have arrested eight suspects in connection with the killing, including Prince Ntambo, the man who made the initial accusation. All suspects are currently in custody, assisting police with their investigations.

Deputy Police Spokesperson Chipo Kaitisha confirmed the arrests and stated: “Investigations into the matter have been instituted, and further updates will be provided in due course.”

Not an Isolated Case

Disturbingly, this is not the first time such an accusation has led to violence in Zambia. Just a week before this incident, a similar case was reported in Chingola.

A 61-year-old man was beaten and accused of making men’s private parts disappear after allegedly tapping them on the shoulder. However, following proper police investigation, it was confirmed that all the complainants still had their “weapons of mass reproduction” intact.

The suspect was released due to lack of evidence, and those who assaulted him were subsequently arrested.

Police Condemn Mob Justice

The Zambian Police Service has strongly condemned the act of mob justice and issued a stern warning to members of the public against taking the law into their own hands.

Such superstitious beliefs and the resulting violence continue to pose serious challenges in many African communities, where traditional beliefs sometimes clash with modern law enforcement.

This tragedy serves as a painful reminder of the dangers of mob justice and the importance of allowing proper legal processes to take their course, regardless of the accusations involved.
