> A young man’s dreams of marital bliss were cut short in the most heartbreaking way imaginable, as bandits claimed yet another innocent life in Zamfara State.

The North-West has been dealt another painful blow as a young man identified as Daha Adamu Maikwano* was gruesomely murdered by bandits in Zamfara State — just *seven weeks before his wedding day.

Daha, who had been excitedly counting down to one of the most important days of his life, was attacked and killed, leaving behind his heartbroken fiancée, Saffiya Sirajo Uba, and a community plunged into deep mourning.

A Dream Stolen Too Soon

What should have been a season of joy — filled with kamu*, *wuni, and the beautiful traditions that mark a Hausa wedding celebration — has been tragically replaced with grief, tears, and yet another painful reminder of the devastating security crisis plaguing Zamfara and the broader North-West region.

Daha and Saffiya had their whole lives ahead of them. Like every couple preparing for their big day, they were likely busy with preparations, surrounded by family and loved ones full of excitement. Instead, that joy has been shattered beyond words.

Zamfara’s Endless Nightmare

This tragic killing is not an isolated incident. Zamfara State has long been at the epicentre of Nigeria’s banditry crisis, with rural communities living under the constant shadow of fear. Farmers cannot go to their fields. Travellers cannot journey in peace. And now, even a man simply daring to dream of a future with the woman he loves has been cut down.

Nigerians across the country have taken to social media to mourn Daha and condemn the senseless violence that continues to rob families of their loved ones.

Enough Is Enough

The question on every Nigerian’s lips remains: how long will this continue? How many more Dahas must be buried before decisive action is taken? How many more Saffiyahs must grieve a future that was violently snatched away?

Daha Adamu Maikwano deserved to marry the love of his life. He deserved to celebrate with his family and community. He deserved to live.

May his soul rest in perfect peace. And may justice, long overdue, find its way to Zamfara. 🕊️

Our thoughts and prayers go out to Saffiya Sirajo Uba, the Maikwano family, and all those affected by banditry across Nigeria’s North-West.
