The Rivers State Police Command has made a major breakthrough in a disturbing murder case, arresting a suspect connected to the killing of a 42-year-old man, Shedrack Chukwem, in Etche Local Government Area.

The suspect, 29-year-old Robinson Uche from Umuechem in Etche LGA, was tracked down and apprehended by officers from the Anti-Cultism Unit, Emuohia Annex, at approximately 7:30 a.m. on March 6, 2026.

The Shocking Confession

According to the Rivers State Police Public Relations Officer, CSP Grace Iringe-Koko, who released a detailed statement on Wednesday, March 18, 2026, the suspect confessed to playing an active role in the murder of the late Shedrack Ogadinma Chukwem, an indigene of Umuemeshie Community, Chokota, in Igbo-Etche.

During interrogation, Uche revealed chilling details about the December 17, 2025 incident. He claimed that he and four other men—identified as Prince (also known as “Onyia-Army”), Achor, Gift Okere (also known as “Nnaye”), and another unidentified individual—were allegedly hired by a traditional ruler, Chief Elijah Okere, to bring the deceased to his palace.

How the Murder Happened

The suspect’s account painted a grim picture of what transpired that fateful day. According to his statement, the group went to a location where Chukwem was attending a family meeting with the intention of taking him to the chief’s palace.

However, their attempt to “arrest” him was unsuccessful. In the ensuing confrontation, the group shot the victim, leading to his death.

Following the killing, the suspects transported Chukwem’s body to a bush area in Ekerre-Ugbor, where they hastily buried him in a shallow grave, apparently hoping to conceal their crime.

Body Recovered, Investigation Ongoing

Acting on the suspect’s confession, police operatives were led to the burial site where the victim’s remains were successfully exhumed from the shallow grave. The body has since been deposited at the Military Hospital Mortuary for autopsy.

The police spokesperson emphasized that the Command has intensified efforts to apprehend the four other suspects who remain at large.

Commissioner Assures Justice

The Commissioner of Police for Rivers State, CP Olugbenga Adewole Adepoju, PSC, mnips, has assured the public that the Command remains fully committed to ensuring justice is served in this matter.

“We will continue to pursue all individuals connected with this crime,” the CP stated, promising that further updates would be provided as the investigation progresses.

This case highlights the continued efforts by the Rivers State Police Command to tackle violent crimes and bring perpetrators to justice, even when attempts are made to conceal evidence.

The investigation is ongoing, and the public is encouraged to provide any information that may assist in apprehending the remaining suspects.
