The Igboanugo family of Ekwuru Issekke community in Ihiala Local Government Area of Anambra State has released burial arrangements for their loved ones who were brutally killed by unknown gunmen in a shocking attack that left the entire community in mourning.

Chief Japhet Kennedy Igboanugo, his two wives, and their daughter were murdered on May 22, 2025, when gunmen invaded their compound in what has been described as a targeted attack. The assailants stormed the family residence and carried out the killings, leaving the community devastated.

According to the burial announcement released by the family, a Christian wake-keeping service will hold on April 8, 2026, at the Igboanugo family compound in Ekwuru Issekke. The final burial ceremony will take place the following day, April 9, 2026, after a burial mass.

The tragic incident has added to the growing concerns about insecurity in the South-East region, particularly in Anambra State, where several communities have experienced attacks by unknown gunmen in recent times.

The Ihiala Local Government Area, where this incident occurred, has witnessed increased security challenges, prompting calls from residents for enhanced security measures to protect lives and property.

As the family prepares to lay their loved ones to rest, the community continues to grapple with the trauma of losing an entire family in such a horrific manner. Many are calling on security agencies to intensify efforts in tracking down the perpetrators and bringing them to justice.

The loss of Chief Igboanugo, his wives, and daughter has left a void in the community, and residents are expected to turn out in large numbers to pay their final respects during the burial ceremonies.
