Nigerian soldiers operating in the Northeast have once again demonstrated their resilience and tactical brilliance, foiling a deadly terrorist ambush in Borno State.

Troops of the 27 Task Force Brigade, operating under Sector 2 of Operation Hadin Kai*, have successfully neutralised a dangerous ambush plot by suspected Boko Haram terrorists along the *Buni Gari–Buratai axis in Biu Local Government Area of Borno State.

This latest development is yet another testament to the growing effectiveness of Nigeria’s military operations in the Northeast, a region that has endured over a decade of insurgency-driven hardship.

What Happened?

The troops, while conducting routine patrol operations along one of the region’s most sensitive corridors, stumbled upon — and swiftly dismantled — a carefully laid ambush by the insurgents. Rather than falling victim to the terrorists’ trap, our gallant soldiers turned the tables on the attackers, forcing them to flee and abandon several valuable items in their wake.

Among the items recovered were:

RPG (Rocket-Propelled Grenade) bombs — deadly weapons that could have caused significant casualties
Motorcycles — the preferred mode of transportation used by insurgents to carry out hit-and-run attacks across the Northeast

Why This Matters for Nigeria

For many Nigerians — particularly those in the North East geopolitical zone — this kind of news brings a sigh of relief. Communities in Borno, Yobe, and Adamawa states have long lived under the shadow of Boko Haram and its splinter group, ISWAP. Every foiled attack represents lives saved, families kept together, and communities spared from yet another round of grief and displacement.

The Buni Gari–Buratai axis is no stranger to insurgent activity. That troops were able to anticipate and counter this ambush speaks volumes about the improved intelligence gathering and operational coordination that has characterised Operation Hadin Kai in recent times.

Operation Hadin Kai: Nigeria’s Northeast Shield

Launched to consolidate the fight against insurgency in the Lake Chad Basin region, Operation Hadin Kai (which translates to “Collective Effort” in Hausa) has recorded several significant wins against both Boko Haram and ISWAP. This latest success adds to a growing list of operations that have degraded the capacity of these terrorist groups to wreak havoc on innocent civilians.

The Nigerian military has consistently urged civilians in the Northeast to remain vigilant and to report suspicious activities to the nearest security post or through established civilian-military cooperation channels.

The Bigger Picture

While celebrating this victory, it is important to acknowledge the sacrifices of the men and women in uniform who put their lives on the line every single day to keep Nigeria safe. From the swamps of the Lake Chad fringes to the rocky terrains of the Mandara Mountains, Nigerian soldiers continue to serve with courage and dedication.

As Nigerians, we must continue to support our troops — not just in words, but through civic cooperation, timely intelligence sharing, and holding our leaders accountable for providing the military with the resources they need to finish the job.

The fight against insurgency in Nigeria’s Northeast is not over, but victories like this remind us that with determination, coordination, and the right support, peace is achievable. E go better!
