Summary: Nigerian troops apprehend 27-year-old suspected militia member with locally-made rifle in Benue State during intelligence-led operation. Full story inside.

In a swift response to community distress, troops of Operation WHIRL STROKE have nabbed a high-profile suspected criminal terrorising residents of Agasha Village in Guma Local Government Area of Benue State.

The arrest, which happened on March 13, 2026, came after security forces received reliable information about an attack on a local resident, Mr Shaapera Seeta Michael, in the quiet Agasha community.

According to Lieutenant Ahmad Zubairu Zubairu, Acting Media Information Officer at the Headquarters of Joint Task Force Operation WHIRL STROKE, the military moved into action immediately after getting wind of the attack.

How The Operation Went Down

“Acting swiftly on the report, troops of the Chief of Army Staff (COAS) Intervention Battalion XI deployed under Operation WHIRL STROKE mobilised immediately to the affected area to track down the suspect responsible for the assault,” the statement revealed.

The security operatives demonstrated tactical precision by cordoning off the entire area to prevent any escape route for the suspect. They then conducted a thorough, targeted search operation aimed at fishing out the alleged attacker.

The Suspect and His Weapon

The alleged militia member has been identified as Mr Suurnen David Akum, a 27-year-old young man from the same Agasha Village. During his arrest, troops recovered a locally fabricated rifle from him—the type commonly known as “Dane gun” or locally-made firearm.

The suspect is currently being interrogated and will be handed over to the appropriate authorities for further investigation and possible prosecution.

Military Boss Commends Troops

The Force Commander of Joint Task Force Operation WHIRL STROKE, Major General Moses Gara, praised the troops for their professionalism and smart tactical approach that led to the successful arrest.

He urged them to maintain their current operational tempo and stay alert in their ongoing mission to flush out criminal elements from the area, ensuring that bad elements have no breathing space to operate within Benue State.

This development is part of the continuous efforts by security agencies to restore lasting peace to Benue State and other parts of the Middle Belt region, which have experienced security challenges in recent times.

The arrest sends a strong message that security forces are working round the clock to protect lives and property in all communities across the state.
