A 48-year-old businessman thought he was smart — but the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) was smarter.
The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency has arrested one Nwankwo Onyebuchi, a 48-year-old businessman, after operatives discovered 1.550kg of cocaine carefully concealed within the walls and railings of his luggage at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport (MMIA) in Lagos.

For those who think they can outsmart Nigeria’s drug enforcement officers at our busiest airport, this latest arrest is a wake-up call. NDLEA operatives, known for their increasingly sharp surveillance at Lagos airport, intercepted Onyebuchi after a thorough examination of his baggage raised red flags.
Rather than carrying the illicit substance openly — as if anyone would dare — the suspect had gone through considerable lengths to hide the cocaine inside the structural parts of his luggage, including the walls and railings. The street value of the seized cocaine has been estimated at approximately N23 million.

This arrest is yet another demonstration of NDLEA’s intensified efforts to keep Nigeria’s airports drug-free. Under the leadership of Chairman Brig. Gen.
