The British Royal Family rolled out the red carpet for Nigerians living in the United Kingdom last night, hosting a spectacular reception at the historic St. James’s Palace in London. The event, held on March 11, was organized in anticipation of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s upcoming state visit to Britain.

King Charles III himself played host to members of the Nigerian diaspora community, in what many are describing as a significant gesture of the strong ties between Nigeria and the United Kingdom.

Naija Owambe, Royal Style!

The reception had all the flavors of home, with the Royal Family ensuring their Nigerian guests felt right at home. The evening featured authentic jollof rice—yes, the real deal—and live performances by the legendary Dele Sosimi alongside the Afrobeats Orchestra. Talk about bringing Nigerian culture to Buckingham!

Taking to Instagram on March 12, the Royal Family shared beautiful photos from the event with an enthusiastic caption: “Last night, The King hosted a reception with members of the Nigerian Diaspora in the UK, ahead of the incoming State Visit of the President of Nigeria. With jollof rice and music by Dele Sosimi and the Afrobeats Orchestra – it was a wonderful evening. Thank you to everyone who joined us!”

Tinubu’s Historic State Visit

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is scheduled to begin his official state visit to the United Kingdom on Wednesday, March 18. He will be accompanied by the First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu. The visit kicks off with a grand reception at Windsor Castle, one of the official residences of the British monarch.

This state visit represents an important diplomatic milestone, strengthening the bilateral relationship between Nigeria and the UK, particularly in areas of trade, security, and cultural exchange.

The pre-visit reception for Nigerians in the diaspora demonstrates the recognition of the significant contributions of Nigerians living in the UK and their role as a bridge between both nations.
