A seemingly perfect relationship ended in unspeakable tragedy as a 25-year-old Kenya Defence Forces soldier allegedly murdered his wife before taking his own life, just hours after their romantic photoshoot.

The world was shocked when news broke of a devastating domestic tragedy involving a young military couple in Kenya. Daniel Mburu, a 25-year-old soldier serving with the Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) in Samburu County, allegedly sh0t and k!lled his 28-year-old wife, Eunice Waruguru, before turning the weapon on himself on Saturday, March 7, 2026.
The Heartbreaking Discovery
The couple’s lifeless bodies were discovered at the officer’s compound on Sunday morning at approximately 5:20 AM. Investigators found an AK-47 rifle loaded with 23 rounds of 7.62mm ammunition at the scene—the weapon believed to have been used in the tragic incident.
Also recovered were six additional AK-47 magazines, each fully loaded with 30 rounds, two mobile phones, and a hardcover exercise book containing an eight-page handwritten document believed to be Daniel’s last testament.
According to preliminary investigations, Daniel sustained a fatal gunshot wound to the head, while Eunice suffered multiple gunshot wounds to her left hand, face, and head. Both bodies were transferred to Samburu County Referral Hospital Morgue, awaiting post-mortem examination.
Their Daughter Spared from Tragedy
In what can only be described as a merciful twist, the couple’s three-year-old daughter was spared from witnessing the horror. She had been left with her grandmother at their family home in Kanjuku, Gatundu North, Kiambu.
Military police from Ngoisus Camp and investigators from Laikipia North Sub-county Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) processed the crime scene.
A Love Story That Seemed Perfect
What makes this tragedy even more heartbreaking is what happened just one day before. On Friday, March 6, the couple had enjoyed a romantic photoshoot wearing traditional Kikuyu attire. The images, which have since circulated widely on social media, showed a couple seemingly deeply in love and happy together.
The photos painted a picture of marital bliss—two young people displaying affection and celebrating their union in colourful traditional wear. Nobody could have imagined that within 24 hours, their love story would end in such devastating circumstances.
Family’s Shock and Grief
Speaking to Kameme TV, Daniel’s father expressed the family’s profound shock and grief over the incident.
“We were saddened to receive the heartbreaking news. We were told that Daniel Mburu and his wife were d3ad. We were told the incident occurred in the wee hours of Sunday,” his father said, his voice heavy with sorrow.
He acknowledged that like any couple, they had their challenges: “They were not angels, and so yes, there were issues here and there. However, those issues were not serious. I am shocked by this.”
The Relationship Nobody Saw Coming to This End
According to family members, Daniel and Eunice had been together for three years. Despite occasional disagreements, they were known for their love for each other and their enjoyment of taking trips together.
The family described Daniel as a calm person—someone they never imagined could commit such an act. The disconnect between the man they knew and the tragedy that unfolded has left them struggling to comprehend what happened.
A Painful Reminder
This tragedy serves as a sobering reminder that appearances can be deceiving. Behind the smiling photos and public displays of affection, couples may be battling demons that remain invisible to the outside world.
It also highlights the urgent need for mental health support, particularly within military and paramilitary organizations where personnel face unique stressors and challenges. Access to confidential counselling and crisis intervention services could potentially prevent such tragedies.
For those experiencing domestic violence or mental health crises, it’s crucial to know that help is available. Nobody should suffer in silence, and no problem is too small to seek professional help.
