The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) Jigawa State Command has arrested a 50-year-old scrap dealer allegedly caught with vandalized electrical cables valued at approximately N573,300.
The suspect, Muhd Adamu from Maruwa town in Kafin Hausa Local Government Area, was apprehended on Wednesday, March 4, 2026, around 3:00 PM by operatives of the corps.
According to ASC Badruddeen Tijjani Mahmud, the Public Relations Officer of the command, who disclosed this in a statement on Monday, the arrest followed intelligence gathering on suspected vandalism activities in the area.
What Was Recovered
Upon his arrest, NSCDC operatives recovered a substantial quantity of aluminium cable measuring approximately 267 metres from the suspect’s residence.
“Preliminary investigation revealed that the cable was allegedly brought to the suspect’s house for safekeeping by two accomplices identified as Sani and Auwalu, both from Ruba village in Kafin Hausa Local Government Area, who are currently at large,” Mahmud stated.
Ongoing Investigation
The suspect remains in custody while the command intensifies efforts to track down and apprehend the two fleeing accomplices.
Reacting to the development, the State Commandant of NSCDC Jigawa Command issued a stern warning to those engaged in the vandalism of critical national assets and infrastructure.
He cautioned vandals to immediately cease their illegal activities or face the full wrath of the law, emphasizing that the command would not tolerate any form of sabotage against public utilities.
Call for Public Vigilance
The Commandant also appealed to residents of Jigawa State to remain vigilant and promptly report any suspicious activities around public infrastructure to security agencies.
“The safety of our critical national assets depends on the cooperation between security agencies and members of the public,” the statement emphasized.
The command reassured citizens of its unwavering commitment to protecting critical national assets and infrastructure while maintaining the safety and security of lives and property across the state.
