Nigerian troops have dealt a crushing blow to Boko Haram/ISWAP insurgents, recovering 63 bodies of terrorists following a foiled attack on a military location in Borno State.

The decisive military operation unfolded in the early hours of Wednesday, March 17, 2026, when terrorists attempted to overrun the 68 Battalion position in Malam Fatori, Abadam Local Government Area of Borno State.

According to military sources who spoke with security analyst Zagazola Makama, the insurgents launched a coordinated assault advancing on foot from the Duguri axis through the Bravo Company frontage. The terrorists also deployed armed drones in their desperate attempt to breach military defenses.

Coordinated Military Response Decimates Insurgents

Troops of Sector 3 Operation Hadin Kai (OPHK), working in seamless coordination with the Nigerian Air Force (NAF), mounted an overwhelming response that turned the tables on the attackers.

“The attack was met with fierce resistance from our ground troops, backed by precision air strikes from the Nigerian Air Force,” a military source revealed. “The coordinated response led to a decisive defeat of the terrorists, who suffered heavy casualties during the engagement.”

The Air Component conducted multiple interdiction missions, delivering accurate strikes on identified enemy concentrations. These air strikes significantly degraded the terrorists’ fighting capability and prevented them from achieving their objective.

Heavy Casualties and Forced Retreat

Following the intense engagement and subsequent clearance operations, military personnel recovered a total of 63 terrorist bodies within and around Malam Fatori general area.

“The scale of bodies recovered indicates the massive losses inflicted on the insurgents,” the source stated. “The synergy between air and ground forces ensured that the terrorists were fixed and neutralized in large numbers.”

The devastating losses forced the surviving insurgents to withdraw in complete disarray towards the Arege axis, abandoning their mission and their fallen comrades.

Significance of the Victory

This latest military success demonstrates the effectiveness of the ongoing Operation Hadin Kai in degrading terrorist capabilities in the Northeast. The seamless coordination between ground troops and air support proved critical in repelling the attack and inflicting heavy casualties on the insurgents.

The foiled attack on Malam Fatori represents another setback for Boko Haram/ISWAP, whose attempts to regain territory and momentum continue to be frustrated by the determined response of Nigerian security forces.

Military analysts note that such decisive victories not only eliminate active terrorists but also serve as a deterrent to potential recruits and demonstrate the military’s growing capacity to defend liberated territories in Borno State.

The Nigerian military continues its operations to restore peace and security to communities affected by insurgency in the Northeast region.
